After a busy few days in Las Vegas debuting Hexis at the NBA Tech Expo our team have landed back on UK soil and are ready to share how it went.
Let's start with a little background. The expo was put on by the Innovation Team at the NBA to showcase the 40 most innovative companies globally in the areas of health and human performance, as well as fan engagement. The invite only event took place over a 5 hour period on Tuesday 11th July and attendees varied from Heads of Performance and Sports Nutritionists to Venture Capital Investors and the US Army. It was an amazing room to be part of and we are incredibly grateful to have had the opportunity (although we don’t plan on this being our last visit).
Our team touched down in Las Vegas late Sunday evening. After a quick adjustment to the 45C temperature we landed in our hotel, grabbed some dinner tailored to our Carb Codes (not a lot of activity on a travel day!) and rested up to ensure we were ready for a productive Monday in Las Vegas.
A hidden benefit of the event was the fact that everyone was in town and there were plenty of opportunities to catch up with other practitioners and companies, and that’s exactly what we did!
For day 1 (check out the highlights here) we first caught up with Dr Jon Bartlett the Performance, Research and Innovation Lead at the NBA. Jon has an impressive CV and is a former LJMU alumni like Hexis Co-Founders David Dunne and Sam Impey. In fact, Sam’s PhD built upon the foundations that Jon’s research laid in previous years. If you haven’t checked out his novel research into how carbohydrates can influence how we adapt to training, you can do so now here.
Given everyone was in town we headed from Jon to catch up with Dallas Mavericks Lead Performance Nutritionist Charles Ashford who was helping the Mavs fuel for, and recover from, the demands of Summer League. It was great to share some of our latest releases, such as Live Energy and Wearable Integration with Charles before heading to watch the Mavs beat the 76’s later that afternoon. After this we were ready to rest and recover to be on top form for the expo.
We got straight to it on day 2 by heading down to the University of Nevada where the NBA Tech Expo was being held. Our team set up our stand (check it out below) and started to get to know the other companies that were also at the exhibition, some familiar faces and some new. After discussing exciting collaboration opportunities we focused on the task at hand as soon as the doors opened.
We managed to meet some of the amazing staff from a wide range of the NBA franchises, as well as the WNBA organisation's, both of whom we are looking forward to catching up with again over the coming weeks and getting them setup on Hexis. The sports tech speed dating wrapped up at 7pm before we said a “goodbye for now” to the staff and companies who had packed out the university sports hall for the event and this marked the end of our trip but the start of an exciting USA journey which we can’t wait to share more about soon.
PS: If you’re in North or South America and want to find our more about Hexis and when we are launching in your location drop David and email to david@hexis.live.
